Living with Qi : T’ai Chi & Meditation “Under the Tuscan Sun”
June 28 – July 4~

This is our third Retreat in Italy. This time we will stay at a beautiful villa near Arezzo, the location for films like “Under the Tuscan Sun” and “Life is Beautiful”.
Terzo di Danciano is a charming 18th-century villa with a marvelous view overlooking a valley on the border between Umbria and Tuscany.  The villa and adjoining buildings, once a work area for growing silkworms, has been converted into a charming facility welcoming retreats and workshops of theatre, yoga and meditation, as well as performances and celebrations.

Our favorite chef, Rosanna Passione is going to cook for us with her usual love and talent! Her food is more than delicious, as most of us have already experienced. This beautiful place and Rosanna’s wonderful food are good enough reasons for us to get together. But we will also be sharing wonderful TaoZen Life Practices!

Tenshin Ranman Taichi:
After many years of polishing, Masahiro and Li Jung Feng (one of the most respected Taichi teachers of our time) have perfected this form. It contains all the traditional Taichi movements but only requires 7 minutes and a 2 x 2 meter area, so it can be practiced anywhere and anytime once you learn it. It is a powerful practice that integrates mind, body and spirit–developing mental and physical grounding and centering. But more than anything, it is fun and joyful. You can learn and practice Tenshin Ranman Taichi at any age and with any physical conditioning: whether you are a seasoned athlete or in need of strengthening and recovery. Both beginners and those familiar with the form are welcome!  However, Masahiro will set aside time for giving attention and guidance to intermediate students and Assistant Instructor candidates.

Bagua Meditation ( Fusion II Meditation ):
The Bagua is a powerful Tao symbol used in many ways. We will employ it for intense meditation to empower the Dantien, our center and “Elixir Field”. This cultivates both a strong center and open flexibility which are so important to live in our drastically changing society. We need to enhance our internal peace and power: not only for ourselves but for our future society as well. Though this is considered an advanced mediation, Masahiro will make it accessible enough for beginners and deep enough for advanced meditators.

Prana Dao Yin Yoga:
Masahiro will also introduce Prana Dao Yin Yoga for the first time. We will use Dao Yin’s simple, natural movements with Indian Prana Yoga, sound and breath to explore and enhance our Qi (Prana).

Dream Practice and Silence Day:
One of our favorite times! Along with our other pleasures, we will share a simple yet deep dream practice during our time together. And for one day, we will practice in silence to explore deeper communication with ourselves and others.

Group Tour to Assisi:
We are planning a one-day “School Tour” to Assisi.  Assisi is one of the most incredibly beautiful and powerful cities in the world.  We will do Taichi and meditation together there and visit the St. Francis Cathedral and other wonderful sites. An additional cost will occur for the bus.

Cooking Lab with Rosanna Passione

rosannaA three-day workshop to cook together, to nourish our wonder and savor each and every bite!

Rosanna’s cooking lessons were born out of long cooking experience and from the passionate conviction that to prepare food one must not think with an ordinary mind, or look with ordinary eyes. Food is an extraordinary gift of vitality, it is a feast for the senses and the soul, it is the expression of love and  passion for life.

We’ll be cooking real and wholesome, choosing the most genuine and fresh produce: you’ll learn to make fresh pasta, delicious sauces, traditional recipes with a twist, vegetable bounty and desserts, in a feast of bold colors and flavors.

Right after Masahiro Ouchi’s wonderful annual Italian Taozen retreat, we’ll be hosted in the same charming 18th century villa: Terzo di Danciano  on the border between Tuscany and Umbria~

Tai Chi Chi Kung – Form Refinement & Practice Guidance

Masahiro will help us refine our form and offer insights and advice on deepening our practice… Do you know this Tai Chi form from Universal Healing Tao?

Even if you are a beginner, if you know the form “pretty well,” you are welcome to join us.  Masahiro will focus on corrections and refinements and offer advice on deepening our Tai Chi practice in general and this form in particular.  Since he will not be presenting the basics, this class is best for people who already practice.  Not sure if it’s for you?  Email to ask or with any other questions.

Dream Practice, Bone Marrow Breathing & Meditation~

Live the Other 8 (7, 6, or 5 ) Hours of your Life More Fully!  Enrich your Dreams and Sleep with simple and enjoyable practices that offer Profound Transformation…

For centuries, Taoists have been using the power of dreaming to enhance their physical health, emotional balance and spiritual development.  Tao of Dreaming and Sleeping is a fun, easy and intuitive practice that gives us deeper insight into our sleep and dreams. This personal, compassionate practice also adds a new dimension to Meditation, Qigong, Creative Arts and anything else we bring into our life.

We will learn some simple qigong and breathing techniques to prepare for sleeping and dreaming; methods for deeper contemplation of our dreams; and ways of waking up that enhance the relationship between our dream/sleep life and our waking life.  Bone Marrow Breathing vitalizes our bones and deepens our sleep to allow our rest to penetrate “to the bone.”

These practices teach us to dream deeper and sleep better and, through contemplation of our dreams, to gain greater insight into our life.  “A good sleep is the key to health and a good dream is the key to happiness.”

This is a special 2-part class.  We will practice together on Saturday afternoon, and then bring our practice home to our own beds on Saturday evening.  On Sunday afternoon,  we come together and expand on our experience of the first class and our “homework” of sleeping and dreaming.

Special Note:  We will have yoga blankets available, but we will “nap” together, so you may wish to bring your own blanket and/or small pillow!

Date/Time: Saturday Jan.  10 ~  1:30 to 3:30pm AND Sunday Jan. 11 ~ 1:30 to 3:30pm

Place: Motherhand Society:  51 W. 14th Street, 3rd Fl. (near 6rh Avenue)

Fee: Saturday & Sunday =$80

Fee: One Day only =$50 (This option is for those unable to attend both sessions… Please note that this is a two-part class and you may miss some material if you only attend one session).

Please RSVP (Space is Limited): miranda_maher@hotmail.com

Tao Garden, Chiang Mai, Thailand

IMGP4904

February 8 – 14, 2015
The Dream Practice and Power Chi Kung (Iron Shirt Chi Kung and Bone Marrow Nei Kung)

If we live an average life span of 75 years and sleep about one-third of our day, we will spend 25 years sleeping and dreaming… 25 years!

Masahiro’s Retreat at Tao Garden has become an annual event and in February 2015, he will offer two!

Deep Dream Practice integrates our unconscious mind and subtle body with our conscious mind, physical body and the material world. In our time together, we will explore deep sleeps and lucid dreaming with a sense of enjoyment and trust. Yoga Nidra and TZ-Dream Meditation will also be practiced to clarify and empower our dream life. This will be a time of deep healing and self-discoveries.

Iron Shirt Qigong and Bone Marrow Nei Gong are so beneficial for strengthening tendons, fascia and the organs. They balance and enhance Qi flow, empower sexual life force energy (Jing), and strengthen and revitalize our mind and body. Masahiro will transmit in-depth, detailed instruction in these methods ensuring a strong foundation for future personal practice. (Some tools may be needed. They will be available for purchase through Tao Garden.)

Basic Taichi and Lotus Meditation will be also practiced to balance and support our main work. There will also be one full day of Silence Practice to deepen our internal awareness and intuitive communications.

Masahiro’s retreats are always full of fun, friendship and self-realizations. Everyone interested in learning and sharing is welcome: Experienced practitioners or total beginners, any age or background. February 14 – 18, 2015 Dreams Come True; Three Wishes Meditation with Masahiro

IMGP4953

“If you were given three wishes, what would you wish for?”

When you really believe your heart-felt wishes, they manifest effortlessly.  We often wish for things, but are they really our true wishes, or just passing fancies?  Do we really believe in our wishes deeply, with all our consciousness and every part of our bodies?

Most people would wish for health, wealth and happiness (though not necessarily in that order). Yet joy and happiness do not exist outside of ourselves: They are a way of Being, a way of Life. We cannot receive them as a gift-wrapped present, but we can open our mind and look beyond our limitations to what we can create for ourselves if we really want to.

In this Retreat, we will spend time reflecting on our wishes and focus on three of them.  We will use the Life Circle Technique and other methods to make sure they are our truest wishes for us now. Then we will contemplate them deeply– mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually in a multi-directional way. We will explore a few powerful methods to enhance this process: Inner Tattoo, Three Bindhi, Three Mudra, Three Yantra and Holding– all supported by focused breathing techniques.

This meditation process can be a very powerful gateway to personal transformation.

Masahiro has offered this Three Wishes method throughout the world and over many years. It is a sacred practice that has proven to be powerful and effective for many people. We hope you can join us and manifest your dreams.

TaoZen Roman Retreat 2014 ~ Joyful Heart Week
June 3rd (Tue) to June 10th (Tue)

Enjoy Taichi, Pure Meditation and Dream Practice at a beautiful historic Villa Lina in the Roman countryside with wonderful food and joyful people!

A Great Place: Villa Lina http://relaisvillalina.com  This is our 2nd Italian retreat. We found a wonderful villa with a 500 year old garden located only one hour from Rome’s airport!  Villa Lina is located in the Truscia region~ Italy’s best kept secret! It is the most intact area of ancient Etruria with medieval villages dotting the countryside. Truscia is host to a full calendar of pre-Christian, Medieval and Renaissance celebrations. It is also home to amazing Etruscan sites: Norchia, San Giuliano, Barbarano; Renaissance wonders: Farnese Palace, Bomarzo, Villa Lante… and exquisite flora and fauna: Pre-historic “Faggeta,” Vico Lake, as well as the sulphur thermal healing waters a few miles away from Villa Lina at Sutri.

Photos of the beautiful Villa Lina: visit their website or the special page on this site.

With Great Food: Rossana Passione, talented chef and author, will once again create delicious Italian meals for us! We loved her creative, healthy Italian food and delightful hospitality in Tuscana last year and are so looking forward to spending time in her care again. Her husband, Alfredo a previous head of the Macrobiotic Center in Milan will host our group again as well.

Special Learning:  We will finish the Tenshin Ranman Taichi form, which is Masahiro’s favourite Taichi. We also practice Pure Meditation, and Dream Practice.

Tenshin Ranman Taichi is a very beautiful, authentic Taichi form. It is a powerful practice that integrates mind, body and spirit, developing mental and physical grounding and centering. But more than anything, it is fun and joyful. You can learn and practice Tenshin Ranman Taichi at any age and with any physical conditioning~ whether you are a seasoned athlete or in need of strengthening and recovery.

If you attended last year, this is your opportunity to refine and polish what you learned in Toscana and to learn the remaining movements of the form. People new to Tenshin Ranman are also welcome! Masahiro will spend plenty of time reviewing the beginning of the form before introducing the second half. We also practice Pure Meditation, and Dream Practice.

Pure Meditation does not force too much technique but instead is a pure stage of meditation, meditating with the deeper being of ourselves. If time permits, we will explore our Pure Meditation as Sitting Meditation, Standing Meditation, Walking Meditation and Moving Mediation. (Some meditation experience will be helpful, but beginners with willingness are certainly welcome. Masahiro always ensures that everyone is supported and comfortable.

We will explore Dream Practice daily. Sleeping and dreaming is a healing and magical part of human consciousness, but since the industrial revolution, we pay very little attention to our dreaming. We will learn how to enjoy and utilize our dreams, using simple yet powerful methods to connect more deeply with this part of our lives, and to better experience the power of dreaming and sleeping.

With a Very Special Group of People:  Masahiro’s retreats and workshops attract people from many different countries, cultures and age groups… At his retreats you will find people from wildly different vocations, personalities and backgrounds coming together to share their passion for Taichi, meditation and loving community.

We believe it is essential for us to gather and share love, trust and life through learning. Actually sharing our time with food, laughter and understanding is so important now and for our future. In this internet society, we deeply need real touch and real human connections.

Beginning first timers to experienced students are all welcome. Classes are held in English but non-English speakers are also welcome. Please contact us if you have any questions you may have.

And a Special Outing…  Masahiro organizes some sort of special activity or outing with his Retreat friends. Each time it is different. This time, as an optional event, we are planning to attend the Wednesday Mass at Vatican with Pope Francis after the retreat: on the morning of June 11th. More details, including the cost and availability will be announced later.
